Tuple is a term used in mathematics and set theory—the branch of mathematical logic that studies sets, collections of objects— to define a finite sequence of terms. Examples could include (a,b,c) or (4,8,6), each of which would qualify as a 3-tuple.  The term can also be used in language—for example a 'tuple of letters'.  I find it intriguing to view equations and words as groupings and patterns of individual objects rather than as a fixed and final outcome—a concept liberated from its context, as a butterfly freed from its chrysalis.
