ILLUMETRIC
West Hollywood, CA
ILLUMETRIC is a trio of monumental cast-acrylic sculptures on steel bases, installed along the landscaped median of Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, CA. Each of the three pieces measures more than ten feet tall and is cast in acrylic in highly saturated primary colors. The geometric forms include a diamond, a cube, and a rectangle. LED lights powered by photovoltaic cells illuminate the sculptures from within so that each piece reaches a glowing luminescence upon sunset.
The work was installed as part of the Art on the Outside public art program sponsored by the City of West Hollywood's Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission, and was on display from June 2014 through July 2016. In 2014, Shana Mabari was awarded an Artists' Resource for Completion (ARC) grant by the Center for Cultural Innovation to fund the project.

“ILLUMETRIC,” a short film by Los Angeles-based artist Shana Mabari, premiered at the WeHo@30 Film Festival: A Digital Time Capsule, on October 24, 2015. Mabari received a 2015 WeHo@30 Film & Digital Media grant to make her film about Illumetric, a triptych of massive, internally illuminated diamond-, cube-, and rectangle-shaped acrylic sculptures. The 12-minute film/video documents her Art on the Outside public art project Illumetric, covering conception, fabrication, installation and presence in the urban streetscape, including footage of West Hollywood celebrations and events from throughout its 2 year tenure on the median of Santa Monica Boulevard. The film includes interviews with Mabari, legendary fabricator Jack Brogan, City of West Hollywood Arts Administrator Andrew Campbell, and Los Angeles Art Association Executive Director Peter Mays.
